After a dismal 1-5 start to the season, the Colts rediscovered the joys of NFL football, winning 8 of its last 9 games to go to 9-6. Now comes the opportunity to put the cherry on top of a fine stretch of football by winning this game and earning the last wild card spot in the AFC. It took QB Andrew Luck a few games to get his timing back after missing all of last season with an injury. By mid-season, he was on track to return to his status as one of the top QBs in the league. He has successfully led the league’s 10th best offense with 4,308 passing yards and 36 TDs against 14 INTs, 8 of which happened in the first 6 games. Over the last 6 games, the defense has been incredible, giving up just over 15 PPG.
The Titans (9-6) enter this game with a chance to wrestle the final AFC wild card spot away from its division rival. They an off 4 straight wins to end the season and stay in step with the Colts. On offense, the passing game ranks dead-last in the league with just over 206 YPG. As one might expect, the rushing game was among the best in the league. QB Marcus Mariota has passed for 2,528 yards but only 11 TDs. However, he did manage to rush for 357 yards to help keep the offense moving. The team’s leading rusher has been Derrick Henry, who has rushed for 966 yards and 12 TDs. The defense has been solid, giving up just over 326 YPG to rank 7th in the league.
Prediction: In the prior meeting between these division rivals, Indy destroyed the Titans 38-10 in Indy. The Titans simply had no answer for Luck. Now, the Colts are playing great defense and the Titans have limited capabilities on offense. The feeling here is this Colts team is for real. Note: Titans starting QB could be out with injury. Play Indianapolis (Final score 27-17)
